Project Pan '17

It's A Great Big World by Biosphere
For the latter part of 2017, I decided to go on a lil' Project Pan. Of course like all adventurers, I had big plans. Luckily, I didn't get ahead of myself although I talked big, inside I allowed myself the freedom of just letting things be. Well ... as long as I finished at least one lipstick.

To surmise - I think I did well, as I did indeed finish a lipstick.

Items: The products I choose greatly focussed on old/discontinued makeup in my collection. Whilst I didn't use each product every day, I found that I did manage to hit pan on a few items and gained, even more, awareness about my likes, dislikes and where I want my collection to go to. In the long run, I definitely don't want to expand - simplicity will be my ultimate mantra.

My thoughts on Project Pans: Project Pans are pretty great for those who want to focus on finishing items in their collection/hoard/kit but, they're also great to open the eyes of those who really think they can finish a 15g loose powder in 2 months (sorry nope that won't happen unless you bathe in it or are using it on a fleet of people). Needless to say, my eyes were opened further and I found that using a product every day really gets you to the nuts and bolts of it, products can take a really long time to dent let alone finish and that only when you've been consistently using the product every day can you truly know its virtue or vice.

In an effort to not bore/bog you down with things - since this is the end of the year. I'll keep this light with simple pics and a final summary of my Highlights and Lowlights of this little project.
Base Makeup
Becca Luminous Skin Finish in Cognac
Becca Compact Concealer in Hazelnut

Becca Powder in Cardamon

NYX Cream Blush in Tan & Max Factor Cream Blush in Soft Murano

The blushes applied to my skin at the strength I'd use it on my cheeks. Unfortunately, NYX Cream Blush in Tan is discontinued :O(
Project Pan Lips: Just a few lip products I was aiming to use more/finish. Out of all the ones pictured my main focus was Soap & Glory SexyMotherpucker which is pretty much finito. Products featured from L to R: S&G Perfect Peach, NYX Liquid Lip Shine in 549, Lush Liquid Lipstick in Passionate and Beauty Bar Baby's matte lip Cream in Mauveness.
Project Pan Lips: A few shades I really pivotal moments in my lip pans. Products from L to R: Max Factor Cube Gloss in Cholocate Brown (great nude lip gloss for dark skin), Topshop Velvet liquid lipstick transformation with an oil to make it less dry and lip liner with Calablaza lipstick (2017 was the age of lip mixes with liners for me).
Project Pan Lips: I found that I gravitated more to warm-toned lip colours. Especially since one of my main goals was to finish Calablaza so I mixed it with various lip products and textures. Products featured from L to R: Kiko Volume Lip Gloss in 07, Mac Lipglass in Oh Baby, S&G Perfect Peach lip gloss with Calablaza by Lunatick Labs Cosmetics and lastly my DIY lip gloss with Calablaza.
Top Highlight = finishing/leveling out Calabaza lipstick. I successfully managed to have it at the end stage (far right) before 2018 wafted in the air. I think its pretty decent progress given that I didn't use it every day (around 3 months). Top Tip = reapplication and using it like a lip balm a plus was that it was moisturising and very easy to wear even with no other makeup and blend/mix with other products
Highlights:
  • Finishing Lunatick Labs Cosmetics Lipstick in Calabaza. I practically used it every day round the clock. When I wasn't wearing it alone, I was using it with other products to spice it up. It's definitely a product I would purchase again (in the future) as I think it has a great consistency and it's relatively unique in its colouring.
  • Using Urban Decays shadows (Golden Griot Palette) actively on various occasions actually changed my opinion about the product. Now, I do like and appreciate them.
  • Using products routinely allowed me to find new creative ways to make things work or more effective i.e. using an oil to increase the life of a drying liquid lipstick - I would never have thought of that had I not been doing a Pan.
  • Being on a "Pan" inspired/semi-forced/focussed me on actively using a product every day.
  • I learned what textures I liked and what colours I naturally gravitate towards - sure I like lots of bright colours and textures but, that doesn't mean I want to wear them routinely.
Lowlights:
  • Realising that it takes so long for me to finish products has really shaken my boots and made me really think about the overwhelming collection I have amassed (my bad).
  • Using a set amount of my kit/collection meant that my other items were "suffering" and deteriorating.
  • I found the number of items even in my Pan overwhelming.
Items I hit pan on: NYX Blush (gave half to my sis as she really wanted the colour/product too), Max Factor Soft Murano & Becca Concealer.

What I learned: Project Pans are great to focus you, they can be really tough and there's nothing like actually and actively using the product routinely to get your full thoughts about it. Oh and that you can make pretty much anything work with enough creativity, drive, and passion. I'm sure there's more but, that's all I can think of for now - later ...
